Staging of Pancreas Cancer

Staging is performed to detect how far the cancer has advanced & to gauge the prognosis of the cancer. PET-CT Scan can be used to rule out stage 4 disease. CA 19-9 is a blood test that can help gauge tumour burden. Stage 1 is considered to be a very early stage. Stage 2 & Stage 3 are intermediate stages. Stage 4 is advanced stage. Early & intermediate stages can be cured by surgery followed by chemotherapy in significant number of patients, if the tumour biology is good. Stage 4 is treated with palliative chemotherapy.
